{"id":2082,"date":"2018-04-11T12:11:28","date_gmt":"2018-04-11T12:11:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.afrikat.com\/leading-the-field-in-responsible-tourism\/"},"modified":"2018-04-11T12:29:03","modified_gmt":"2018-04-11T12:29:03","slug":"leading-the-field-in-responsible-tourism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.afrikat.com\/fr\/leading-the-field-in-responsible-tourism\/","title":{"rendered":"Leading the field in responsible tourism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last year, with the introduction of our new Catamaran &#8211; Afrikat 69, we stopped the use of disposable plastic glasses onboard. \u00a0Every customer onboard receives their own reusable \u00ab\u00a0beaker\u00a0\u00bb and we have cleaning stations onboard so that you can change what you&rsquo;re drinking, and still use the same beaker.<\/p>\n<p>This year, we again lead the field in responsible tourism and we have introduced yummy edible straws in order to stop using plastic straws onboard.<\/p>\n<p>Why we do it &#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..did you know :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It takes 500-1,000 years for plastic to degrade.<\/li>\n<li>Millions of tonnes of plastic swirl into convergences in the Earth\u2019s oceans making up about <strong>40 percent of the world&rsquo;s ocean surfaces<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Plastic constitutes approximately 90 percent of all ocean floating rubbish, with 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile.<\/li>\n<li>One million sea birds and 100,000 marine mammals are killed annually from plastic in our oceans.<\/li>\n<li>An estimated <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pnas.org\/content\/112\/38\/11899.abstract\">71% of seabirds<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1111\/cobi.12126\/full\">30% of turtles<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0have been found with plastics in their stomachs.
